Listen back to Kink and Sierra Sam live at Watergate

Berlin clubbing heavy-weight and label Watergate have released a recording of Kink and Sierra Sam’s live set from 2014. The analogue-only set is a hefty one containing  exclusive and unreleased material from both artists. It follows the outline sketch of a DJ set through live electronics. It gestates in the more reserved elements of house, replete with hollowed percussion and syncopated hats, before venturing further into the deeper trenches of Techno. A healthy dose of acid is never too far away and the pulse throughout is a captivating one. The hour-long set is a remarkable feat in control and execution, and the listener truly gets the sense of the club night unfolding through this podcast.

While we’ve known of their combined ability with live electronic music, it’s very rare to be able to revisit a set of this magnitude after the fact, but that’s exactly what the Watergate have allowed to happen on this occasion and it’s a wondrous thing. Perhaps it also sets a tone for less DJ podcasts in the future and more live sessions like this one will certainly be more welcome…
