London Contemporary Orchestra and Actress to collaborate for Boiler Room

Boiler Room and London Contemporary Orchestra have commissioned a collaboration between Actress and LCO for a special one-off performance at the Barbican. Featuring the London producer’s back catalogue alongside some new and exclusive material, the performance looks to contextualise Actress’ recorded music in an avant garde classical landscape. LCO are no stranger to this type of performance, having collaborated with the likes of Johnny Greenwood and Matmos in the past for similar situations, and based on those performances and Actress’ music, this one is likely to impress too. Combining elements of prepared pianos and musique concréte with live electronics, the performance looks to highlight Actress’ influences of a sprawling metropolis, or at least that’s what the short behind-the-scenes documentary will have us believe. It’s unclear whether Boiler Room will stream the event, but their suggestion that the “premiere of this live performance will take place at the Barbican Centre on February 10th 2016” suggests that a stream might crop up after the premiere. You can stream the doc here for more information and buy your tickets here. It seems that Hubble will make an appearance…
